This summer, the Kiwanis Club of Orleans provided a generous gift of $5,000 to our Cookie Jar Fund. These funds went directly to support 30 children and youth by providing them the ability to participate in sports, music and recreational activities to boost their self-esteem as well as provide some basic necessities such as mattresses, bedroom furniture, baby clothes and shoes.
Here’s where we’ve made a difference:
“I was working with a brother and a sister both under 10 years of age. The children had witnessed the father being verbally, physically and emotionally abusive towards their mother. The parents separated for a period of time so I could work with them separately and with the children. Support from the Cookie Jar Fund was provided so that the children could attend swimming and dance classes. The brother proudly informed me how far he could swim now and his sister would demonstrate her swimming and dance moves to me during my home visits. After a lot of work had been completed, the family reunited. The children gave me a card that read: “Thanks for all your help over the year. We are all very grateful. You are awesome.”
