Over $2,000 in foreign currency has been donated since the program began last Summer!
Approximately $80 million in foreign currency is stored or saved in Ottawa homes and businesses. Foreign currency has no real value in Canada.
Foreign coins, cash, pennies, and even Canadian Tire money are lying around in homes across Ottawa in bags, suitcases, envelopes, piggy banks, jars, and drawers.
Your foreign currency donation will help children, youth and families involved with the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa with Education, Enrichment and Youth Transition programs and initiatives.
How Can I Support Currency For Kids?
Currency for Kids (CFK) program is easy to support as an individual, business or with a group of volunteers.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Spring clean! Look in your own home or business and collect the foreign currency that has been hiding in drawers and suitcases.
- Engage a service club, church group, school or through an employee drive.
- Invite support from your friends who travel or businesses that work internationally.
This program has an additional benefit of collecting and reducing waste as leftover currency often ends up in local landfills.
Most importantly, you will be supporting Education, Enrichment and Youth Transition programming for children and youth involved with child welfare.
Three Ways To Donate Your Foreign Currency:
1. Via Mail

(N.B. No worries about using the postal system. The currency has no value at this time, the value is only realized after it is repatriated.)
