Any Questions?

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa (CAFO) is the fundraising arm of The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO). We are a registered Canadian charity that supports children, youth, and families involved in child welfare at CASO.

We do not duplicate government funding. We fundraise to fill the gaps for kids and families who do not have access to critical supports that fall outside of government mandated protection services such as enrichment opportunities (camps, sports, etc.), educational and mental health supports, or youth transition assistance (employment readiness training, financial literacy, access to secure/safe housing).

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa (CAFO) is the fundraising arm of The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO). We are a registered Canadian charity that is independent from CASO however, we fundraise exclusively to support children, youth, and families supported by CASO.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa was founded in 1988.

The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa Charitable Registration number is 897546735 RR0001.

Our Cookie Jar Program funds 3 areas of critical support for children and youth living with their biological family or a kin placement to help build confidence, stability, and work towards prevention for further child welfare involvement. 93% of the work done at CASO supports these families (children/youth out-of-care) however, most government funding is directed to those in-care.

Cookie Jar funding supports:

Essentials such as beds, cribs, strollers, car seats, clothing, school supplies, etc.

Enrichment such as museum passes, indoor play gym passes, recreational activities, etc.

Sports such as equipment, registration fees, and memberships.

Currency for Kids collects unused foreign currency (coins and bills) that is then sorted, repatriated, and converted into Canadian funds. These funds are then donated to CAFO to support critical programs that improve the lives of children and youth involved in child welfare through education, enrichment, youth transition, and mental health.

For information on how to donate your unused foreign currency, please click here.

Our Dare to Dream Program provides critical educational support for children and youth involved with CASO. This funding provides tutoring, psychoeducational assessments, technology, and post-secondary bursaries that help youth achieve their dreams and build futures that are brighter than their pasts.

The Dare to Dream Bursary supports post-secondary tuition costs for over 60 youth annually, with numbers growing every year. This is an incredible feat as less than 50% of youth involved in child welfare graduate high school compared to 80% of their peers.

Through our community’s generosity, we are removing the financial barrier for vulnerable youth to reach their full potential.

We raise money through the Camp for Kids program to fund summer and March Break camp opportunities for children and youth living independently, with their biological family, or a kin placement. 93% of the work done at CASO supports these families (children/youth out-of-care) however, most government funding is directed to those in-care.

Camp for Kids ensures no child or youth misses out on the opportunity to make memories, create friendships, and benefit from the structure and enrichment that a camp experience can provide.
